ZAMBIA ENERGY WEEK 2021

Atlas Mara Bank Zambia attended this year’s energy week celebrations hosted by the Ministry of Energy, with support from the USAID Alternatives to Charcoal Project in Kitwe. This year’s theme is “Sustainable Energy, a Key Driver to Economic Development in Zambia.”

The USAID Alternatives to Charcoal (A2C) Project works to reduce deforestation related to the production of charcoal. A2C takes a market-driven approach to this challenge, by promoting a shift in household cooking away from charcoal towards alternative technologies and fuels such as LPG, pellets, ethanol/gel among others.

The project works in partnership with several line ministries in the Zambian government and seeks to effect this behaviour change through communication, innovation, and job-creation that ultimately protects Zambia’s precious forest resources.
